Congratulations to Devon and Tiff for winning the Christmas tree decorating contest. But all the trees looked fantastic. Thanks to everyone who participated. Check out the winning trees below!

Thank you kindly for organising this event, I very much enjoyed viewing the entries.

I must avert my wife's eyes from this winning entry lest she be reminded that she's still owed a diamond ring. In the past she has been unimpressed by my stance that diamond is a worthless material. My friend works in diamond growth, whereby large wafers of the stuff may be grown by combining methane and oxygen in a plasma chamber. These become substrates for electronic devices (a limited set since diamond is difficult to dope compared to silicon). He'd carry a chunk or two about with him as a means to impress young ladies. Since diamond has a high thermal conductivity you can hold a piece and cut through ice cubes with ease. In contrast my speciality struggled to hold interest during our trips to the pub.

But I digress, for future events I'll look into possible rewards for our EMS users to encourage their participation.

Can you just give one of the chunks your friend carries around in his pockets to a diamond cutter and get one made into a ring or something?

Unfortunately the wafers he had were somewhat on the thin side. You can make bigger bits by compressing charcoal in a big vice, whilst praying that the whole thing doesn't explode.
